Iguana iguana, has a range from Mexico to Southern Brazil, Paraguay, and in the Lesser Antilles. Green iguanas have also been introduced into south Florida, the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, southern California, and in Hawaii (Oahu, Nuuanu Valley, Waimanalo Valley).

The green iguana's habitat varies. Generally speaking they are rainforest or open woodland reptiles. They prefer areas that have good cover available. Green iguanas are an arboreal reptile that likes to bask among tree branches and forages on the ground. It is often found on a limb overhanging water, which it will dive into if threatened.

Iguanas have been known to live 10-15 years in captivity.
